Southview Trails Cedar City
While the distance between St. George and Cedar city is only about 60 miles the elevation gain is significant at just over 3000′. This means cooler summers, snow in the winter, and shoulder seasons of perfect riding conditions. Cedar sits astride the vast Hurricane fault which separates the Basin and range province to the west from the uplifted Colorado Plateau to the east rising to elevations of over 11’000 feet at Brian Head. That kind of uplift doesn’t happen without some serious tectonic forces resulting in large areas of basaltic rock exposure. The Southview trail system is built right on the fault and basalt riding is name of the game with miles of trails carving through the juniper covered basalt hillsides.
These trails are masterworks of flow, chunk, rock gardens, and berms where even the climbing trails are works of art, and enjoyable enough to do over and over. It is a system that offers days of riding and is easily linked with some of the old school moto trails of Red Hollow and the downhill “C” trail dropping into Cedar Canyon. New trails pop up regularly with “The Breaks” coming online in 2025 adding another 5 miles of berm and flow to the southern side of the system.
